Koh Phangan may be known for its infamous full moon party, however, this island offers plenty of things to do for every traveller…
Explore the island on a moped
A good way to see the island is to rent a scooter and travel around the north of the island.
The north of Koh Phangan features a gorgeous coastline. Spend a day exploring the tranquil white sandy beaches, including Chaloklum beach and Mae Haad Beach to name a few.
Phaeng Waterfall is a great spot to spend an afternoon if you enjoy a good hike. There are easy to follow paths through the jungle that follow the waterfalls to the peak. Be sure to bring some sturdy shoes though as the walk can be quite challenging at times.
Wang Sai Waterfall is another cool place to check out. Slightly more difficult to find than others but worth making the effort. You can access this waterfall from the top end to look over the edge, or from the bottom where there is a pool perfect to take a dip.
Hug a tree
Unleash your inner hippie and visit the Yang Na Yai Tree. This mammoth tree is said to be hundreds of years old and is known as the biggest in Koh Pha-Ngan. Locals deem this natural giant sacred and leave shrines at the base of its trunk.
Try local food at Thong Sala night markets
Thong Sala night markets are a great place to grab some dinner in Koh Phangan. There are various dishes available including Thai classics, desserts and even an array of fried bugs if you are feeling adventurous!
Watch the sunset at Amsterdam bar
Looking for a great spot to relax and watch the sun go down? Amsterdam bar has just what you need. With a rooftop bar and balcony overlooking the ocean, you can set up shop on a foldout Thai mat. Grab a drink and enjoy watching the day turn into night. Amsterdam bar even has a pool if you fancy a quick dip.
Haad Rin is the area that hosts the full moon party once a month on the island. However, even when there is no party to attend, the area is lively and contains bars offering various drink deals. Sit on the beach and enjoy your evening sipping on cocktails.
Party the night away
Half Moon Party
Twice a month, two weeks either side of the full moon party, Koh Phangan hosts a half-moon party. These events are hosted in the jungle as opposed to the beach and music is less mainstream with techno, house and electronic music at the forefront. The event can be quite pricey though, with a bucket of vodka Redbull costing as much as 750 baht (£18.70)! Therefore, pre-drinking is definitely a good option if you are on a budget.

This famous party is what brings most of the backpackers to this island! Renowned around the world, people come from near and far to celebrate the rise of the full moon and continue celebrations on all night long!
